Crew is a collective made up of artists and scientists. Their leader, Eric Joris, is a cartoonist. They propose experimental theater projects using virtual reality technology. Some projects litterally happen in the spectator’s (or is it patient’s) head, isolated in their intimacy and immersed in a parallel universe thanks to hi-tech prostheses. Other projects are more like public experiments executed on volunteers, a bit like a Renaissance anatomy session. Far from blindly following cyberculture, Crew’s performances are more like reflections and experiments of the junction between theater and technologie. Tonight, Eric Joris, Dr. Philippe Bekaert and Dr. Kurt Vanhoutte present the framework of their research. They will exhibit their work and share the new light that recent progress in computer science is shedding on their work.
