Instead of bowling balls, sensual grooves conjured up by multinational super-quintet Grup Simsek are rolling down the lanes. Led by charismatic vocalist and musician Derya Yıldırım, the group reinvents Turkish folk music: catchy tunes on the saz and synthesisers, traditional melancholic Turkish poetry, a sprinkling of jazz and funk here and there, as well as a generous helping of 1970s psychedelic sounds thrown in for good measure. The upshot is as mesmerising as it is danceable. Speaking of dancing, the night is still young when the Geneva DJ Rythme de vie takes to the decks to share his latest and most exciting finds from his musical digs. Strike!
